ERIC HOLDER’S DOJ CONTINUES TO WAGE WAR ON THE FIRST AMENDMENT, FOX NEWS, AND COMMON SENSE
This week, Fox News’ Executive Vice President of News, Michael Clemente, announced the news agency’s discovery that the DOJ has been spying on FNC since 2010.
Clemente explained that the FBI had seized private phone records and emails from Fox’s Washington Bureau Chief, James Rosen. The FBI said that the reporter was, “At the very least, either an…aider, abettor and/or co-conspirator” in a scheme to gather information from a State Department source – Stephen Jim-Woo Kim.
Rosen was asking Kim for information on the State Department’s knowledge of potential North Korean responses in the event that the U.N. would tighten sanctions on the DPRK if they continued with yet another nuclear test.
The New Yorker’s Ryan Lizza said, The Obama-Holder DOJ has also “Seized the phone records of numbers that are associated with White House staffers” in association with Kim’s interviews which gave away the State Department’s knowledge of North Korean missile response posturing.
Shannon Bream explained that Team Obama-Holder even went after the personal emails and phone records of Rosen’s parents.
Speaking on behalf of Fox News, Clemente said, “We are outraged to learn today that James Rosen was named a criminal co-conspirator for simply doing his job as a reporter.”
In short, James Rosen cultivated a legal, legitimate source and asked that source for honest information. His goal was to report accurate information, not mere conjecture, on a topic that is of interest to the American people. Rosen did his job as a reporter. He gathered legitimate, non-classified information with zeal and urgency to have an edge on Fox’s competitors, and now, Eric Holder’s DOJ wants to criminalize that kind of good reporting.
This latest assault on the freedoms of speech, press, and association have not gone unnoticed by Conservative members of Congress.
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has publicly condemned the DOJ’s attack on FOX News. He said that he is, “Very concerned about the reports of possible criminal prosecution for doing what appears to be normal news-gathering protected by the First Amendment.”
The real mystery here is what is Team Obama looking for in all its invasive, intrusive, and Unconstitutional phone sweeps and email searches and what is the Administration going to do when they find it?
